Delta Insurance Australia introduces free legal helpline for Management Liability customers

Delta Insurance Australia has partnered with one of the country’s top tier law firms to offer its Management Liability customers a critical business service that’s not only free, but unlimited.

The company has launched the Delta Legal Helpline, which forms part of the legal expenses coverage it has built into its Management Liability product.

Founder and Director Stephen Carey said the service was different to other options in the market that were often limited to only an hour of legal advice, and had to be in relation to an issue covered under the specific management liability policy.

“The Delta Legal Helpline provides our customers access to unlimited and complimentary legal advice on any aspect of Australian law, excluding intellectual property law,” he said.

“You can use it as much or as little as you like.”

The Delta Legal Helpline is an incredible value-add for customers.

“Most SME clients don’t have their own in-house HR manager or legal counsel, or their local lawyer might not have specialist knowledge in areas like employment law or work health and safety law,” Mr Carey said.

“When the directors and managers of a business are faced with making a key decision, one that is potentially keeping them up at night, this gives them the opportunity to pick up the phone and talk it through with an expert lawyer who can point them in the right direction for the next steps to take.”

The Delta Legal Helpline lawyers can provide advice on anything, from landlord disputes to terminating employees and contractual agreements.

Mr Carey said that when making decisions like terminating a staff member, often a business will have a valid reason, but sometimes they come unstuck because they have not followed a procedurally fair process.

“The Delta Group has rolled out similar helplines in New Zealand and Singapore,” he said.

“In some instances the advice has been so valuable, it has saved businesses.”

Management Liability insurance is more important than ever, given the onerous and constantly changing regulatory landscape in Australia that often differs across state borders.

“In Australia there are many hundreds of laws imposing personal liability on directors,” Mr Carey said.

“There is also significant variance between states and territories, which creates more complex challenges for companies carrying on businesses across jurisdictions.”

Despite this, Mr Carey said a lot of SMEs still didn’t see it as a necessary expense.

“A lot of businesses aren’t aware of their exposures,” he said.
