We’re pleased to introduce Matthew Davis, Australian Claims Lead at Delta Insurance Australia. With a career spanning six years in private legal practice and eight years in insurance claims, and deep expertise in professional indemnity, Matthew brings a strong technical foundation and a genuine commitment to delivering for brokers and their clients.
As Delta’s Australian Claims Lead, Matthew will lead, promote and develop the local claims function, a role that sits at the heart of the experience brokers and their clients have when it matters most.
Matthew began his career in private legal practice, first in Adelaide and later in Melbourne, over a period of six years. He then spent eight years in a claims role with a major international insurer. Across that time he has worked predominantly in professional indemnity, while also handling general and property insurance claims, particularly during his years in private practice, alongside general commercial and criminal litigation.
His professional achievements include winning the inaugural award for excellence at his previous employer and serving as President of APIG Victoria for the past four years.
Matthew was drawn to Delta by the opportunity to help shape something from the outset. “Being able to come in to lead, promote and develop the claims function locally as the Australian Claims Lead is an amazing opportunity,” he says. “It offers a rare chance to ‘get in on the ground floor’ of something with significant aspirations and I can’t wait.
”His focus from day one is on partnership. “I’m looking forward to working with the local and international underwriting teams to build and develop stronger relationships with our broker and capacity clients, and to grow and expand Delta Insurance in Australia.”
Outside work, Matthew spends much of his time with his wife and daughter. The family shares a love of running and are easing back into marathon training, something Matthew and his wife did several times before their daughter arrived and enjoy regular trips to the local science museum and the zoo. A proud South Australian, Matthew is partial to a good drop and visits his favourite wineries as often as he can. Through winter he plays Masters AFL, and come summer he’s on the golf course whenever he gets the chance. He’s also been known to lose a few hours to the latest video or board game.
Two of his proudest personal milestones sit close together: finishing the Melbourne Marathon and completing his Master of Laws at the University of Melbourne. A lesser-known fact about Matthew is that before his first professional role, he worked as a swim instructor and coach while studying, teaching everyone from toddlers (mostly singing nursery rhymes) to junior state-level competitors and adults learning to swim.
The advice he lives by is simple: “Work hard and be proud of what you achieve.”
